“Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us daily” – Sally Koch
At Harvest House there are many people who come to us in some type of crisis or need in their lives. I get the opportunity to work with some of the families on a one-to-one basis for a longer period of time and really help empower them to take control of their personal and financial situations. I have been blessed to witness their willpower and perseverance through many difficult situations and see how some clients evolve. My job is to guide our clients and let them know of the resources available to them within the Harvest House and the community. I had one family in particular that had been struggling for some time and had been in search for employment. This client was determined to find a job and kept applying for job after job, but was not finding any luck. Harvest House would give the client gas vouchers on the days they had job interviews and would meet with the client on a regular basis to check-in and see how the job search was going. At times the client would get discouraged and felt like finding employment was never going to happen. We would look for job referrals and anything that may aid our client in finding employment, but still no results. We never gave up and kept our client in our thoughts and prayers, hoping one day they would be offered a job. After 3 months of working with our client, I got a call before I left the office one day. To my surprise, it was my client calling to share with me their joy of a job, they were offered earlier that day. You could hear the excitement, relief and pride in their voice as they told me of their new job. Its days such as that one which makes my job rewarding and reinforce what role Harvest House has. Even though Harvest House played a small role in working with the client to find employment, we were blessed to have the opportunity to share in that experience with our client. We were able to see where the client was when we first began working with them and were privileged to see their personal growth over the course of 3 months. It just shows us that sometimes even though we may not have an abundance of resources at the time to help our clients. We will always have something to offer any clients that come to Harvest House. Whether it’s an encouraging word, prayer, a bag of food, clothes, whatever it may be we need to be aware of the small opportunities we have every day to help clients, even if we only see them one time. |

Service with a Smile
A gentleman came in with absolutely no teeth. All of them were pulled out for medical
reasons. He asked if we had a box of teeth that he could go through. He said he was
desperate for help since he was on disability and could not afford dental work.
Complete Dental Care here in Burleson provided him with a new set of teeth. When he
was told the teeth would cost him nothing, he said, "You're going to make me cry."
Today he is enjoying solid food again.
